Touched by Olivia is a national charity building inclusion through play.
Their mission is to:
- Support communities to build Livvi’s Place inclusive playspaces
- Create employment opportunities for people with disabilities at their social enterprise, Livvi’s Cafes
- All Kids Can Play
The Foundation is working with local councils, communities and corporations to upgrade or build inclusive playspaces, giving children regardless of ability, the opportunity to play side by side.
The best way we can ensure inclusion for children is to work with the community to create play places where people are going to have fun in an inclusive way for many decades, Livvi’s Places provide a unique environment for children of all ages and abilities to play side by side.
Our Partnership with Touched By Olivia
Woolooware Bay will be the destination for the first Touched By Olivia playground in the Sutherland Shire. The playground will form an integral part of the new revitalized foreshore and will deliver all-inclusive play spaces for children and their families.
As part of the development of the park, we have undertaken engagement with local schools, and families who have children with a disability to help us design the playground and its facilities. This research has helped to inform the actual park design and other key elements such as access to the park.
The park is due to be delivered in line with the completion of the second stage of the residential in early to mid 2018.
Raising awareness – The Importance of Inclusion
Together with joint venture partners Cronulla Sharks, a Kids Disco was held at their auditorium to further raise awareness of the importance of inclusion, especially among children in a fun and friendly environment. A number of the families who participated in the research attended the event.
Future residents of Woolooware Bay and local primary school children painted small tiles which will form part of a feature wall in the playground.
